I am not known for being especially easy to get hold of via text. I tend to keep my phone on silent as the high-pitched ping of an incoming message makes my cheeks flush with dread. I wish I could mute all my contacts' notifications - sorry, mom, dad, and everyone I care about, but communicating with you makes me incredibly anxious. But, obviously, that's not feasible. I do, however, mute text threads with more than three people, and I opt out of family threads entirely. It is a small gesture, but bowing out of these communal conversations eases my mind, even if I sometimes feel left out and lonely - not to mention guilty that I've made my family feel like an annoyance.

RIPON -- In a colorful protest, about two dozen Weston Elementary school kids in Ripon skipped class on Wednesday and demanded that the Ripon Unified School District remove what they believe is a cancer causing agent.
“Take down that cell tower,” Kyle Prime, a cancer survivor, said.
"Having a cell phone tower on a school ground, it's... in 2011 it was classified as a known carcinogen so that tells me that it shouldn't be around our children,” Prime's mother, Kellie, told FOX40.
Kyle, 11, was diagnosed with cancer last year.
"I had a Wilms' tumor in my left kidney,” Kyle said.
Another parent, Monica Ferrulli said her 10-year-old son, Mason, was diagnosed six months later.
"I had brain cancer,” Mason said.
Both mothers said it was devastating to learn of their sons' diagnoses. They believe the radiation from the communications tower, which was installed in 2009 on the school’s campus, may be the reason their sons got sick.
"It's there. It's very, very close to the buildings. The kids are there, six, seven hours a day,” Prime said.
The American Cancer Society said there is very little evidence that these towers cause cancer. Even so, Ferrulli said she has demanded answers from the school district only to remain in the dark.
"They don't know when it's tested, what the last radiation levels that were tested. How often it's tested,” Ferrulli said.
We’ve called, emailed the school board and even showed up to the superintendent’s office but administrators told us she wasn’t available. No one would comment. Now, both boys are cancer free but their parents, who are fighting to keep it that way, said they might have to transfer their kids to a different school for their health.
"At this point we just have to eliminate any possible factors that could cause it to come back,” Ferrulli said.

Tens of thousands of students around the world skipped school school Friday to protest inaction on climate change. It was one of the largest turnouts so far in a months long movement that included the U.S. for the first time, in an event organizers call the "U.S. Youth Climate Strike."
The protests began last summer with teenager Greta Thunberg in Sweden, and gained attention when she delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations climate summit in December, chastising delegates for not doing more.
On Friday, Thunberg took part in a rally in Stockholm, where she called climate change an "existential crisis" that's been "ignored for decades by those that have known about it." This week Thunberg was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Strikes and demonstrations were scheduled in more than 100 countries and territories. There were protests in South Africa, India, New Zealand and South Korea. In Europe, students packed streets in Lisbon, Vienna, Rome, and Copenhagen, among other cities. In London, one banner read, "We're missing lessons to teach you one." In Berlin, students chanted, "We are here, we are loud, because you are stealing our future."

And Germany's official radiation protection body also advises its citizens to use landlines instead of mobile phones, and warns of "electrosmog" from a wide range of other everyday products, from baby monitors to electric blankets.
The German government's ruling – which contrasts sharply with the unquestioning promotion of the technology by British officials – was made in response to a series of questions by Green members of the Bundestag, Germany's parliament.
The Environment Ministry recommended that people should keep their exposure to radiation from Wi-Fi "as low as possible" by choosing "conventional wired connections". It added that it is "actively informing people about possibilities for reducing personal exposure".
Its actions will provide vital support for Sir William Stewart, Britain's official health protection watchdog, who has produced two reports calling for caution in using mobile phones and who has also called for a review of the use of Wi-Fi in schools. His warnings have so far been ignored by ministers and even played down by the Health Protection Agency, which he chairs.
By contrast the agency's German equivalent – the Federal Office for Radiation Protection – is leading the calls for caution.

The push to beef up Jackson’s wireless telecommunications comes mainly from the introduction of 5G technology, which carriers say will dramatically improve service, increase download speeds, and pave the way for driverless cars. One noteworthy facet of 5G is that it benefits more from many smaller cell facilities rather than a few large ones.
AT&T in particular is looking to install some 12-15 of these in Jackson, mainly incorporated into street light poles. Company spokesperson Terri Nikole Baca said the installations would be part of an early 5G preparation but the full rollout of the new technology is still some time off. She added that, at the very least, the new mini-facilities would bolster the existing 4G coverage in town, which suffers from overload during peak summer months.

The new mast – 33% taller than the existing mast – will serve customers of EE and H3G Ltd and be able to serve a much larger area than the current transmitter. It will be equipped with the controversial Chinese-made Huawei transmitters.

On October 28, 2018, Microwave News published a report on two research teams from UK, in which each had observed a rise in glioblastoma in England between 1995 and 2014. Glioblastomas are the most malignant brain tumours leading to death in nearly 100% of the cases shortly after detection (1).
While incidence and location of the brain tumours were comparable in both studies, the conclusions about the pathogenesis of the tumours were different. Philips et al. (2) see the cause for the rise in glioblastoma in the increasing use of mobile phones, while de Vocht (3) is of the opinion that such an assumption can be excluded with a high probability. This dispute is in some way evocative of the controversy between the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP). In the $ 30-million study, the NTP detected malignant schwannoma in the heart and glioblastoma in the brain of male rats after exposure to mobile phone radiation for a period of two years. ICNIRP, a non-governmental organization under the undisclosed control of the telecommunication industry, which is responsible for the establishment of safety limits for non-ionizing radiation in Europe and beyond, tried to play down the significance of the NTP findings by casting doubts on their reliability. While ICNIRP has totally ignored any progress of research since the turn of the century (4), de Vocht based his findings on what he calls “synthetic counterfactuals”, which sounds – rightly or wrongly – more like “alternative facts”.
